Very surprised, very clean & modern. Keycard for front door, room & secure large drawer below bed. Dorm for 12 with one toilet & two showers but no problem. Another toilet in common area along with well equipped kitchen & huge shared fridge. Will be going back.

This was an emergency stay for me, and the experience unexpectedly made me feel like a student again in the best way possible. The entire place was exceptionally clean, well-organized, and maintained a highly respectful, cultured atmosphere throughout. The staff were fantastic, incredibly helpful, and a special mention must go to Kristina at the front desk, who was absolutely wonderful and made the stay seamless. Highly recommended.

First, the positives: The rooms are clean. Breakfast includes the basics, is of good quality, and isn’t too expensive.
The biggest negative point: The rooms are very noisy. I had my own bathroom in the bedroom, but unfortunately, the room next to mine had its bathroom in the shared hallway. The constant opening and closing of doors kept waking me up, and unfortunately, people don’t pay attention. Because of this layout and the fact that the doors aren’t soundproof, you unfortunately can’t get any peace and quiet.

Due to the noise level that prevails during the night, I wouldn’t recommend this hostel.

The Funker Hostel is one of the best city hostels I’ve discovered in my travels and is an excellent place to stay in Malaga. In summary: it is new, modern, very clean, comfortable, well equipped with all the good facilities that travellers could want, peaceful, and has very helpful staff. It’s also ideally situated in the city.

In more detail: I spent 4 nights in the Funker hostel and it has nice, comfortable, modern bedrooms with small partitions for the beds. I only stayed in one bedroom of course, but apparently all the bedrooms have en-suite private showers and bathrooms which are modern and work very well, as we had in our room. Everything is kept very clean. Each bed has its own an electrical outlet and reading light.

The hostel has the facilities that most hostellers really appreciate. There is a communal kitchen which is well-equipped and a great place to socialise with other travellers. I met numerous other nice hostellers there at the kitchen table and we exchanged stories of our travels. There is a seating/sofa place, a snooker and cinema area, and also a small work room where travellers can work in peace on the internet, useful for digital nomads. Furthermore, it has a washing machine and drier for clothes.

There is a sunny terrace at the top of the building which will be another communal place to relax in the near future. I believe the hostel will furnish the terrace in the next months with outdoor seats /sofas, etc. before the start of summer (2026). That will become another nice place to relax outside.

The hostel is well-located, being close to the old town and city centre, only about 7 mins walk to the old town area. It is also close to many supermarkets and shops where you can buy things useful for travelling. For example, Mercadona and Dia supermarkets are only about 5 mins walk and Lidl and Aldi just a couple of mins more. There are also plenty of snack bars and pizzerias in the area. I particularly enjoyed eating the ‘empanada’ in the local food bars – an Argentinian style savoury pastry with different fillings.

The hostel itself is in a quiet pedestrian street and it’s very peaceful with hardly any noise, despite the area nearby having plenty of shops, food bars with the normal busy activity.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave me good tips about local places to visit, and information about the city and Andalucia region.

I can really recommend the Funker hostel. It has a friendly and welcoming ambiance and I would definitely return there next time in Malaga.
