About the neighbourhood: Distrito Centro

Málaga's historic core, bounded by the Guadalmedina river to the west, the port to the south and the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro to the east. The district contains the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba fortress, the Picasso Museum and the Pompidou Centre, plus the main shopping street Calle Marqués de Larios. Inside Distrito Centro sit the well-known sub-areas of Centro Histórico, Soho, La Merced and Lagunillas. The area is almost entirely pedestrianised, served by Metro Atarazanas and the Málaga–Centro Alameda rail station.

In this church you can see one of the most popular religious sculptures/ images by the local. El Cristo de la Buena Muerte also know as the Christ of Mena is very popular as during Easter, the legionaries carry the image while signing. Sadly the sculpture is not the original by the greatest artist Pedro de Mena as this was destroyed in 1931 during the burning of churches in Spain after the proclamation of the Second Republic. The current image is from 1941, inspired in the original.

Visited outside during Jueves Santo when the Legionarios were marching. An experience worth waiting for.
