Málaga's historic core, bounded by the Guadalmedina river to the west, the port to the south and the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro to the east. The district contains the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba fortress, the Picasso Museum and the Pompidou Centre, plus the main shopping street Calle Marqués de Larios. Inside Distrito Centro sit the well-known sub-areas of Centro Histórico, Soho, La Merced and Lagunillas. The area is almost entirely pedestrianised, served by Metro Atarazanas and the Málaga–Centro Alameda rail station.
Amazing place, highly recommended!
Without a doubt, since childhood I accompanied my grandfather to refill the barrels in the sacristy. Located in the old quarter of Málaga, behind the Capuchinos church, it was a settlement built or colonized by transients—or as they called the people who came from the countryside and other places to make a living in our city of Málaga "the beautiful."
Some of the first merchants of alcohol "depots," established in 1962, were not tavern owners, but rather experts in winemaking and preservation, humble winemakers and tasters by profession. Don Rafael and Don José Isla, brothers originally from Villarta de San Juan, Ciudad Real, had migrated to Málaga. They only had a little time between transfers to open their hearts, sharing their knowledge of wine in conversation with anyone who approached and listened. That's where my interest began, and how much I learned from these venerable gentlemen.
Their legacy, their roots, continue to exist thanks to their successors. Ah, that great gentleman, who with artistry and care combined casks and barrels of the finest wine produced in Málaga. They also brought wines from La Mancha, Córdoba, Jerez, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Tierra de Castilla, along with countless musts, brandies, liqueurs, and all manner of spirits. Ah, those good gentlemen Rafael and José Isla, may they rest in peace, and their successors are admirable for their excellent work and the skillful management of that humble little winery, rich and preserving its organoleptic qualities with every wine offered to its clientele who so greatly appreciate it.
It is admirable how, through years of effort and perseverance, they maintain the same method of selling well-made, preserved, and bottled bulk wines.
If you bring your own tank, demijohn, or bottles, they will refill it by the liter. Proof of their existence is that we, their customers, also maintain the tradition of having a small barrel, which we gladly refill with any of their wines, both for cooking and simply to whet our appetites, always remembering and saying, "This wine is from Bodeguita de la Paz."
Thank you very much, and may you continue your magnificent tradition for many years to come. Cheers and best wishes.
The staff are friendly, but these days it's very unusual to see a place without a card reader. If you don't have cash, it's best not to go.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, recommending what to order, and they have a wide variety of drinks. The only downside is that they don't accept cards, only cash.
They're the best. Great quality, unbeatable price. And above all, they're wonderful people.
