Málaga's historic core, bounded by the Guadalmedina river to the west, the port to the south and the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro to the east. The district contains the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba fortress, the Picasso Museum and the Pompidou Centre, plus the main shopping street Calle Marqués de Larios. Inside Distrito Centro sit the well-known sub-areas of Centro Histórico, Soho, La Merced and Lagunillas. The area is almost entirely pedestrianised, served by Metro Atarazanas and the Málaga–Centro Alameda rail station.

Lovely local spot away from the tourist routes, seems to be very popular in the neighborhood. Come here for authentic experience and hot churros with chocolate. Do ask the staff to order - it gets busy so it's quicker than waiting at the table for someone to come to you; however, once ordered, they will bring you your food almost instantly
Authentic local cafeteria. Delicious breakfasts and very cheap.
Cafetería Pelayo 23 is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a local secret. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, with that unmistakable charm of a true neighborhood café.
The coffee is rich and perfectly prepared, and the churros with chocolate are simply a must — crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and served piping hot. Their tapas and menu del día are excellent value, offering fresh, homemade dishes that taste like they came straight from someone’s family kitchen.
What truly stands out here is the consistency: the food is always delicious, the prices are more than fair, and the service is genuinely caring. It’s the perfect spot for breakfast, a casual lunch, or an afternoon pick-me-up. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Málaga, Cafetería Pelayo 23 will make you feel at home — and you’ll probably want to come back the next day, just like we did.
It is insanely cheap and good. I recommend their coffee and ham and cheese sandwich. Delicious!!
