In Antequera, the construction of the Palace of the Marquise of Escalonías dates back to the early 17th century, and the doorway is a very interesting example of Andalusian civil Mannerism.

The interior of the Palace of the Marquise of Escalonías is accessed through a wide entrance hall after passing through a beautiful iron gate. The courtyard is unique in the local architecture scene, as it features a single wing of galleries, which open onto a secluded garden, redesigned at the beginning of the 20th century with a certain Romantic flair.

On October 1, 2013, the Governing Council of the Regional Government of Andalusia agreed to register the Palace-House of the Marquise of Escalonías as a monument in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage.

The palace-house of the Marchioness of Las Escalonias, one of the most representative examples of civil architecture in Antequera, is considered one of the best-preserved buildings of the old Antequera palatial house typology from the early 17th century.

The palace-house of the Marchioness of Las Escalonias displays on its exterior a taste for Mannerism and the influence of Italian treatises, its main façade being indebted to a model previously tested in the Royal Chancery of Granada, the typical "frame façade", considered a magnificent exponent of this aesthetic although the use of traditional materials, such as brick and masonry, the design of its interior elevations, the floor plan, the composition of its side façade or the rear façade, are linked to the local construction tradition of Mudéjar, successfully embodying local artistic continuity with innovation, which makes this palace a model of reference for other later projects in the city, laying the foundations of the defining features of the Antequera Baroque.
