Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort

One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.
We booked Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort for what was meant to be a special trip, a celebration of our engagement and one of our last getaways together before our baby arrives, as my fiancé is currently pregnant.

We lasted around five minutes in the room before leaving.
The room was dirty, damp, and had a horrible smell from the moment we walked in. It did not feel clean or maintained at all. Then we found three cockroaches in the bathroom and two cockroaches on the bed. Not near the bed. On the bed.

My fiancé has entomophobia, which is an extreme fear of insects, and seeing cockroaches in the room and on the bed left her completely shaken. What was meant to be a relaxing, happy trip turned into her feeling distressed, uncomfortable, and scared to even sit down.

It got worse when we turned on the air conditioning. Both of us started coughing almost immediately, and the smell in the room became even stronger. With my fiancé being pregnant, there was absolutely no way I was going to let her stay in a room that felt damp, dirty, infested, and unsafe.

The room looked and felt nothing like what was advertised online. The photos and description made it seem like a clean, comfortable golf resort. What we walked into was completely different. I would not have booked it if I had known the reality.
We immediately went back to reception and explained everything. Management told us they would issue a full refund.

However, even that was handled badly. The refund receipt I was given did not match what I paid, and the payment details did not seem to match my card or booking. I only realised later after checking my bank and seeing that no refund had arrived. So after leaving a room we could not stay in, I was still out of pocket and had to chase a refund that had apparently been processed incorrectly.

Because we had to leave immediately, I then had to book another hotel last-minute on the same day so my pregnant fiancé had somewhere clean and safe to sleep. As it was a last-minute booking during a busy period, this cost far more than it would have if we had been able to plan properly. That extra cost was caused entirely by this hotel failing to provide the basic standard they advertised.

This experience completely ruined our trip. Instead of celebrating our engagement and enjoying a peaceful getaway before having our baby, we spent the evening stressed, disgusted, and trying to find somewhere else to stay.

I work in the professional golf industry and have stayed in many hotels while travelling for events. I understand that not every hotel is perfect, and I do not usually leave reviews like this, but this was beyond unacceptable.

Cockroaches in the bathroom is bad enough. Cockroaches on the bed is unforgivable.

A dirty, damp room, a smell that got worse when the air conditioning was switched on, a pregnant guest coughing, and then an incorrectly handled refund. The whole experience was shocking from start to finish.

I would strongly warn anyone considering staying here to be very careful. Based on our experience, the reality was nowhere near what was advertised, and the way the situation was handled afterwards made it even worse.

Spent a very pleasant stay here. Very well priced, bright apartment with comfortable beds and everything you may need. The staff at reception were very helpful, nothing was to much. I will highly recommend this place anytime at present and in the future. If you book direct with them they have very good offers . Great place to go and chill out, quiet.

Excellent price/facilities ratio. First of all, thank you to the ladies at the reception for an excellent welcome, with a smile on their faces. The complex is located in a superb natural setting. The apartment is clean, large and warm. Breakfast was amazing. I really liked the vegetables. Congratulations to the chef. Thank you to Mrs. Irina for a successful vacation. We will come back with great pleasure!

We stayed at the hotel as part of a student tour to Spain. The rooms were all large spacious 2 bedroom apartments with kitchen. They were clean but some things were broken / shoeing their age in each room. Front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast had a large selection and staff there were friendly too. Had some issues with a couple of the washing machines and the three repair guys that came were extremely rude. Also, seeing as we weren’t golfing, the location was a bit far from any nearby tourist attractions. Views from the hotel were pretty good though.

The entire stay was amazing — clean rooms, a relaxing atmosphere, and excellent service throughout the resort. However, Manuela truly stood out and made our vacation even more special with her positive energy and outstanding hospitality.
