This is the official tourism website for Antequera municipality, not a business establishment. The site provides information about attractions, events, and visitor experiences in Antequera, including the Alcazaba, Dólmenes, and local gastronomy.
Residential district immediately north of the centre, on the right bank of the Guadalmedina river. It includes the neighborhoods of Olletas, La Trinidad and Capuchinos. The area is mostly mid-rise apartment blocks with strong local market culture — the Mercado de la Merced and Mercado de Capuchinos are within or just outside its borders. Walkable to the historic centre across the river in under 15 minutes, and served by several bus lines.
Beautiful square
The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception is an impressive Baroque monument located in the heart of Antequera. This 18th-century commemorative column stands out for its height and elaborate decoration. It is an important symbol of the city's religious devotion and a popular meeting point for locals. Situated in a busy square, it's the perfect place to pause while exploring the historic center. Access is free, and it can be admired from various angles. Highly recommended for architecture and history enthusiasts.
In the city of Antequera, the Triumph of the Immaculate Conception is the work of the sculptor Antonio del Castillo. Commissioned by the Capuchin Friars with a contract dated October 4, 1697, its purpose was to occupy the esplanade in front of their convent. The artist was only contracted to create the pedestal, as the sculpture of the Immaculate Conception that was to crown it had already been in the convent since 1681, the year it was brought by Father Francisco de Luque and placed above the main entrance.
The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception, an important piece of Andalusian Baroque art, presents the following design: superimposed rectangular parallelepipeds with a narrowing between them, and above them, a column with a Corinthian capital, a base with curved profiles, and finally the sculpture. The image of the Immaculate Conception, in alabaster, is an anonymous work but of great strength and movement: her mantle in the wind acquires its full meaning when placed outdoors and at a great height.
I love this place, presided over by the Immaculate Conception, with a very modest and not always well-kept garden. Next door, as a counterpoint, are the Capuchin church and convent, currently without monks.
A beautiful spot located in the upper part of Antequera next to the local police station...there is a statue in honor of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception.
