About the neighbourhood: Churriana

Originally a village to the south-west, now part of Málaga municipality, sitting between the airport and the foothills. Churriana keeps a recognisable village centre with the Iglesia de San Antonio Abad and the Casa-Museo de Gerald Brenan. The area is bordered by the Guadalhorce river and includes the Jardín Botánico de la Concepción on its northern edge. Easily reached from the airport (under 10 minutes) and from central Málaga by the A-7053 road and Cercanías rail at Aljaima.

Let’s break down the basics if you plan to visit this spot:

Check Runway Usage: First, ensure that planes are using this runway (31/13). If not, it’s not worth the trip.
Getting There: Coming by car is your best option, as public transport can be a hassle.
For Planespotters
It’s an okay place for spotting—not amazing, but it does the job. Trees obstruct the perfect landing shots, but once the planes have touched down, you can capture some excellent close-up shots.

One thing to note: you’ll need to climb onto a concrete wall for the best view. It’s not difficult, as you just step up, but the drop on the other side is about 2-3 meters into a swampy area—so tread carefully!

Parking is limited, with space for only about two cars nearby. If those spots are taken, finding parking elsewhere might be a challenge.

This spot is arguably the best for capturing planes landing on runway 31 or 13, so if that’s your goal, it’s worth considering.

Final Thoughts: It’s decent if you’re set on spotting landings at these runways, but be prepared for the small challenges like limited parking and obstacles in the view.

Not as expexted but still whiled away an hour or so.
I would recommend using the flight radar app to see whats moving.

It is a nice place with quite good views. The fence is not very high from the spot, but a small ladder will absolutely help! Security pass by quite often, but they have never been a problem. Unfortunately two spotters lost all their gear a while ago when some scumbags attacked them :(

Fun spot to watch the - mostly Ryan Air- planes take off! It happened to be close to our Airbnb, hence the quick visit. If you have kids (or you want to test your binoculars) stroll by!
