We had a somewhat mixed experience during our stay.

On the positive side, the cleanliness was excellent. Both the room and the entire hostel were very well maintained and spotlessly clean. The location is also fantastic – very central and ideal for exploring the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, the dinner included in the half-board option was very disappointing. We understand that at an affordable price, one cannot expect anything extraordinary or high-end. However, the quality of the food was so poor that it was sometimes barely edible. In addition, there were no vegetarian main courses available, which we found quite disappointing.

What bothered us most, however, was the atmosphere during dinner. We often felt like second-class guests – almost as if we were creating extra work for the staff, even though the dining area was not busy at all. This created a very uncomfortable situation.

In the end, we decided not to have dinner on three evenings because the overall experience felt too unpleasant.

The excellent location and the high level of cleanliness are definite strengths of the hostel. However, in terms of dinner quality and service within the half-board arrangement, there is clearly significant room for improvement.

We had dinner here and it was by far the worst meal we had in Nerja. I ordered a mocktail from the mocktail menu, and being 8 months pregnant, was somewhat shocked when I realized I'd been served an actual cocktail with alcohol. Mix ups can happen so we stayed and ordered food - the seafood paella was so tasteless it was hard to believe it wasn't intentionally cooked to taste bad. Cheap frozen seafood that tasted like it was ordered whole sale from the cheapest possible supplier, and tasteless rice that was somehow under seasoned and overcooked at the same time. The young waiters were kind, but the older gentleman (middle age host wearing dress shirt and glasses held around his neck with a string) was rude and seemed incredibly hostile, slamming chairs around, adding chairs to our table whilst we were still eating our food, not responding to greetings. I genuinely felt like he wanted to kick my ass for eating here LOL.

I stayed here for 5 days and everything was great! The location is perfect, the room was clean and comfortable, and the prices are really reasonable. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The staff were super nice and helpful, especially the very friendly gentleman at the reception. I really enjoyed my stay and definitely recommend this place!

About NEW YEAR'S EVE DINNER MARISSAL. What a bad experience!
The staff did their best, but the atmosphere in the restaurant (we were seated at the front) was far from festive. Bright lights were on and the TV was playing, which really spoiled the gala feeling. We ended up turning both off ourselves.

Although the menu looked very promising, the food was extremely disappointing. There were three options per course and our group tried them all — unfortunately, every dish was bad.

The only positive points were the front-row at the balcony and the fact that all drinks were included. Considering the quality, this experience was not worth the money. We would definitely not book this again.

Disappointing stay for a hotel that has such a great location. I won’t be back.

Rooms clean with plenty of hot water. Downside was sad towels that had seen better days.

Noise levels from bins being emptied on cobble street outside meant we were woken every night.

Breakfast opens at 0830 on the dot. Doors locked until then. Once inside it’s pretty underwhelming. Be prepared for the worst machine coffee I’ve ever had in Spain. Resorted to going to cafe opposite.

Checking in process was painful. No receptionist and all digitised door codes. So many other choices in Nerja so shop around
